Cults, Society and Impunity!
Lecture took a discussion format, which included Wole Soyinka. Discussions were based on the documentary on campus cults that was produced by Wole Soyinka. Prof Soyinka showed the documentary to the audience. The documentary was “a report for Channel 4 News, he returned to Nigeria to find his alma mater being exorcised – part of a national clampdown on the copycat ‘cults’ blamed for a series of campus atrocities. How has this come to pass?” As Guardian Newspaper United Kingdom captured it.
Wole Soyinka in his remarks revisited issues he raises in the documentary as well as in an earlier lecture: “Cults, Counter Culture, and the Perils of Ignorance” that he delivered at the 50th anniversary celebration of National Association of Seadogs on December 13, 2002.
It also touched on issues he raised in an article that he titled “A Dream Perverted”, Professor Soyinka wrote, in Guardian Newspaper United Kingdom on 29 June 2005.
